Auburn Primed to Win Back-to-Back National Titles

Rumors are swirling that current Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin may be on his way out after one singular season with the Tigers. With this news, the proud Alabama-based university appears ready to win a second national crown in as many years in the competition that truly matters the most: Paying the most money in coaching contract buyouts.

After shelling out 21.5 million dollars to have the right to not have Gus Malzahn as their head coach a year ago, the people in power at Auburn have decided to make it close to an even $40 million in wasted funds just to fire a couple coaches they weren't forced to hire in the first place.

Malzahn's massive figure topped the charts nationally for coaching buyouts in the 2021 offseason, and Harsin's current buyout of over $18 million would be the largest amount paid out to a fired coach this year as well, as Sports Illustrated writer Ross Dellenger points out.

Mind you, these massive payouts are just to get the coach to leave. These schools are literally paying millions of dollars for the right to fire these coaches.

One has to ask the question: Is Auburn ahead of the curve by wasting all of their funds on paying people not to coach for them? Nobody's ever tried it before (to my knowledge), so this will be a situation worth monitoring, especially when they continue the trend as they pay Urban Meyer $30 million to leave next year.

In the meantime, hang the banner at Jordan-Hare Stadium: "Back-to-Back Coaching Buyout National Champions".

People can't focus on your team being bad if you keep making the news for other reasons
